If you are a South Carolina state resident, you may be eligible for one or more of the scholarships listed below. These scholarships are provided by the state of South Carolina in order to promote access to higher education. Here is a quick rundown of each of these scholarship opportunities and the academic requirements to receive the scholarship.
This article does not list all the requirements for every program, and many programs have different requirements depending upon factors like what school you wish to attend, what sort of high school you attended, and your current status as a state resident. As always, you should check the website for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education for more information on eligibility or potential changes to these programs before applying.

Palmetto Fellows Scholarship Program
The Palmetto Fellows offers up to $6700 towards tuition for your freshman year of college or university, and $7500 per year after that for a total of four years (or five years if you are participating in an approved bachelor’s degree program) at any eligible institution in South Carolina. You cannot be a recipient of any of the other scholarships listed here.
Academically, you must either: score at least a 1200 on the SAT or 27 on the ACT by the June administration of the exam for your senior year, and have a GPA of at least 3.5 according to the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy by the end of your senior year along with being in the top six percent of your class by the end of your senior, junior, or sophomore year; OR score at least a 1400 on the SAT or 32 on the ACT by the June administration date, and have a GPA of at 4.00 when you finish your senior year according to the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy. The program offers Early and Late Awards depending upon the date of application (April 15th and June 30th of your senior year, respectively).
SC LIFE Scholarship Program
The LIFE Scholarship offers up to $4700 towards the cost of attendance to any eligible four-year public or independent institution, or up to $5000 at eligible two-year and technical schools towards the cost of tuition. Both options include a $300 book allowance. There is also a Scholarship Enhancement that provides up to $2500 beginning your second year of attendance, with separate requirements. You must not receive any of the other scholarships listed here.
You must meet two of the following three criteria to be eligible for the scholarship: have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 upon graduation according to the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy; score at least an 1100 on your SAT or the equivalent on your ACT; and have a rank in the top thirty percent of your graduating class.
SC Hope Scholarship Program
The SC Hope Scholarship offers students up to $2800 for the first year of attendance. You must attend an eligible college or university in order to receive the scholarship, which includes a $300 book allowance.
Academically, you must earn at least a 3.0 GPA according to the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy when your graduate high school.
SC Lottery Tuition Assistance Program
The Lottery Tuition Assistance Program is only available to students who want to go to an eligible two-year independent or public college in South Carolina. The assistance can be given for the Fall, Spring, or Summer terms if you are eligible as a full-time student or part-time student taking at least six credit hours that term. The amount you receive from the program depends upon how much other funding you receive from federal grants and state need-based grants and is liable to change depending upon how many people receive the funding and how much funding is initially available.
This program has unique requirements, but generally can be applied for by first filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), then contacting the financial aid office at your institution to see what other steps may be required to apply for the program. Good luck!
